Social Networks and the use of Social Media within organisations is happening and is inevitable, but what of the very real security concerns?

Remember when we were worried about our staff using company phones, using mobiles and using e-mail for personal use? Social Media is the next wave, simply banning it from the workplace will not work and may disadvantage your organisation, for example, the use of social intranets is increasing. We should embrace social media, but what are the risks? I think this article sums it up quite well:

The bottom line is that we need to protect our organisations information and reputation but that we also have a wider responsibility in protecting our staff, providing them with training and awareness of the policies and potential issues that will help them in their personal use of this media as much as it will help them to comply with organisational rules.
