The Information Commissioner’s Office have provided eleven key questions about screening to check that policies comply with the DPA:
- Is it justified?
- Are you open about it?
- Are the sources reliable?
- Is the information itself reliable?
- Is it the minimum information necessary?
- Can information be challenged by the individual?
- Is it recorded properly?
- Is it used only for a limited purpose?
- Is it not disclosed inappropriately?
- Is it not retained longer than necessary?
- Is the information held securely?
