For those of you who may not be aware, the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO) was established over 25 years ago and brings together senior University security professionals from across the UK and increasingly from mainland Europe.
Every year, around springtime, AUCSO holds a national conference which this year was held at City University London and, as ever, the conference was well attended by its members who come together to discuss the issues, legislation and initiatives that they work so hard to implement to keep our universities, staff, students and the public safe. There were notable presentations from a range of speakers including the president of AUCSO, senior police and counter-terrorism experts and Agenda’s own screening manager Richard Connelly who gave a broad ranging talk based on pre-recruitment screening but included information on the current tactics of domestic extremists, freedom of information requests, risks to and the consequences of data loss and the Government’s Security Policy Framework. Agenda also participated in the large trade exhibition and were once again pleasantly surprised by the number of people that showed an interest in our services and took the time to come and see us. AUCSO promotes networking amongst its members and attendees at the conference and this is much supported by the social functions at the conference including an excellent boat trip down the Thames and a Gala dinner held at the headquarters of the splendid Honourable Artillery Company. Agenda was once again involved by helping to create the atmosphere for the event by sponsoring the wine which, with the superb food and entertaining after dinner speaker ensured a most convivial evening.
